The imperious mandate of the dread messenger, Death, against whose entrance within our circle the barred doors and Tyler's sword afford no defense, calls upon us all too often to mourn the loss of another Son of Light.

The broken column denotes untimely death. The beauty weeps for the works left unfinished, reading the book of the virtues of the deceased. In one hand she holds a sprig of acacia, symbolic of the everlasting spirit of man; in the other she holds an an urn, symbolic of our mortal remains. Father Time, who must some day overtake us all, busies himself untangling the hair of the beauty, which signifies that time, patience, and perseverance accomplish all things.
